How to Raise Capital from Accredited Investors: A Proven Playbook

Raising capital from accredited investors is no easy feat. But with the right strategy, you can turn prospects into committed limited partners. Angela S. Hwang, our Founder, joined Fund Playbook to share actionable frameworks.

Start with a Compelling Offer

Accredited investors see countless deals. Stand out by:

  • Being clear and concise: explain your unique value in one sentence.

  • Align and tailor your pitches to investor goals and personas

  • Make sure you stay compliant and avoid making exaggerated claims

"Create an offer that’s compelling to accredited investors, and attracting them becomes easier."

Regulatory Must-Knows: 506(b) vs. 506(c)

  • 506(b): No public marketing; relies on pre-existing relationships.

  • 506(c): Allows ads/webinars and various marketing tactics but requires accreditation verification.

"506(c) gives freedom to market widely, but never say ‘guaranteed returns.’ Use ‘potential’ or ‘projected.’"

Build Trust Through Content

  • Thought Leadership: Publish market insights (blogs, LinkedIn, YouTube).

  • Omnichannel Presence: Successful fund managers have raised more than $200M+ by combining PR, organic content, and external partnerships.

  • Transparency: Showcase your team’s track record—investors check this first.

Organic + Paid Lead Generation

  • Lead Magnets: Offer a free guide (e.g., Beginner’s Guide to Opportunity Zones) in exchange for emails.

  • Paid Traffic: Use Google Ads/LinkedIn to drive traffic to high-value content.

  • Nurture: Once you get leads into your funnel, be sure to nurture them and provide educational content that’s valuable to them

Budgeting for Success

  • Your marketing budget should be approximately 3–5% of the fundraising goal: Organic growth (e.g., $300K for a $10M fund).

  • If you want to build more aggressive campaigns in a short amount of time, expect to spend as much as 6–10% of your total fundraising goal on marketing.

"Spending more doesn’t guarantee quality leads. Strategy matters."

Raising capital is a long game. Focus on compliance, trust, and strategic marketing to win investors.
